Oakland Rising: TODAY, Tuesday, 9/12, at 5:30pm: Join our ally, Urban Peace Movement (UPM), to advocate for NO reduction in funding for the Department of Violence Prevention (DVP) at the Oakland City Council Public Safety Committee meeting (City Hall). Please attend and plan to share a comment in support of the Department of Violence Prevention and the diverse range of alternative community solutions to address public safety and community violence - the things that truly keep our communities safe. By coming together we can work towards real solutions that prioritize the well-being of our community and keep Oakland safe for all.

Families like Antonio Avila Garcia's paid rent every month for 10 years, but a loophole allows landlords to kick tenants out. THIS is why we support @MariaEDurazo #HomelessnessPreventionAct to stop corporate landlords from using reno-victions #SB567

Antonio and the neighbors who've rented there for 15 years are losing their homes because the new owner plans to ""substantially remodel"" BUT the city of Concord has NO permit on file for work on those apartments.

Staff at @workingeastbay said there's no way to ensure property owners actually renovate. @ACCE said reno-victions like these allow landlords to get around the state's 10% cap on annual rent increases and raise the rents even HIGHER.

In Pittsburg CA, 74 year old Francisca Castellanos has lived in her apartment for 46 years and pays $825. She doesn't know she'll go if she is forced out and her rent would double to $1,600 if she returns after ""renovations""

The Homelessness Prevention Act would require landlords to:

👷🏽 To have permits before issuing eviction notices
🔨 Describe the actual repairs to be completed
🗓️ Explain how long the renovations will take
