Measure C: Creating a Winning Campaign for Quality Care

Posted on February 24, 2020

The March 3 election is coming right up and that means it’s almost time to vote YES on Measure C!

In just over one week, we’ll have an opportunity to make quality care a reality for every kid in Alameda County.

Measure C will generate $150 million every year for free and low-cost health and child care through Children’s Hospital Oakland and child care providers across the county. That’s a huge win for everybody.

When we succeed in passing Measure C, we will:

  • Expand access to high quality child care for all Alameda County families.
  • Attract and retain excellent early educators to provide better care for our kids.
  • Help to create access to early pediatric health care for all Alameda County kids.
  • Ensure that Children’s Hospital’s Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center stays open and is fully staffed.

When our friends at Parent Voices Action approached Bay Rising to get the word out about Measure C, we said yes in a heartbeat.

We said yes because all our children deserve access to high-quality health and child care programs that set them up to succeed.

We also said yes because we know what it takes to win ballot measures that make our communities happier, healthier, and more equitable.

If we’re going to make sure that all families and youth have the tools they need to thrive, we need to make sure that every single voter hears about this ballot measure – starting with voters who are often ignored by traditional electoral campaigns.

Over the last month, we’ve worked with Parents Voices Action to develop a winning communications strategy for Measure C.

To do that, we’ve drawn on our years of experience reaching low-income voters, voters of color, and immigrant voters throughout the Bay Area. Bay Rising staff have crafted messaging, identified new opportunities for digital storytelling, designed a strategy for gaining coverage in local and ethnic media, constructed a toolkit to engage voters through email and social, and supported a digital ad strategy to reach as many community members as possible by Election Day.

As we come to the final weeks of this campaign, we hope you’ll tell your friends and family about Measure C!

Together, we can get our kids the excellent health and child care they deserve.

Are you running an electoral campaign for equity and justice? We look forward to providing your campaign with top-notch strategic campaign communications and digital organizing. November 2020 will be a big one, not only a presidential election but also many key local races that will affect housing, health, fair elections, and more in your city.
