When I evaluate candidates for office, one of the important pieces of information I want is who is funding their campaigns. I want to know who contributes directly to campaigns on ballot measures as well, and who is behind the independent expenditures.
As a past president and current member of the League of Women Voters, I support Oakland’s Measure W. The league has endorsed Measure W. Passing this will bring me the information I want – disclosure of top three donors on all ads for candidates or ballot measure campaigns. Measure W will also limit campaign contributions to rein in larger donors. And it will introduce public financing for candidates to reduce the power of money from outside interests and big donors in Oakland elections.
